5 unit scrip note from Western Normal College and Shenandoah Commercial Institute in Shenandoah, Iowa.  There are no denomination markings.  These notes were used for teaching in the Commercial Institute, probably mid-to late 19th Century, but the dates are uncertain.  This note is in near-mint condition.  I had thought it was perfect, but found a very tiny hole upper left on the obverse. If you look closely at the photo above, you can see a tiny black dot almost at the corner of the eye just above the five.  Else like new.  Rare note.  Please, please wait for the invoice.    Preferred payment is through PayPal, but we will accept money orders.  We prefer not to take checks--not because I don't trust check writers, but because hold times complicate the process too much to make it worthwhile.  PayPal is easy and doesn't cost the buyer anything.  I highly recommend it, and it's required for international transactions.  We ship as soon as possible, but in some cases we may be constrained to twice-a week shipments.    International buyers please note:  The US postal service changed both rates and services last year.  Surface shipping services are no longer offered, so the least expensive shipping is MUCH higher than it used to be.  Please write for a shipping quote before you bid. We will combine shipping when it's practical, and always at postal cost.Too many people jumping the gun with incorrect payments lately, so now you MUST wait for the invoice.   That may also work to your advantage.   The shipping weights given are approximate, so in a few borderline cases, the final shipping amount is sometimes a little less if you wait for the exact amount, though they are usually close.  I intend and try very hard to keep shipping at actual cost, but if you overpay because you didn't wait for my invoice, I will not refund the difference.  I just don't have the time to sort that out with PayPal as often as it's been happening lately.   While it isn't always possible, I do my best to get invoices out right after the sale, but in any event within 24 hours of the sale closing.     Insurance is your choice.  I do not insure small purchases for myself because it isn't cost-effective, but we are not responsible for your uninsured losses.  We pack well, and ship via your choice of carrier.  Shipping is nearly always at cost, though items requiring special packing may incur a small materials fee.  Delivery confirmation is required when the item size permits under postal regs, unless you request insurance.  I will consider waiving the confirmation if you write to me in advance to confirm you are aware that I am not responsible for a mailed item once it leaves my hands (I keep all postal receipts), but the confirmation is for your protection as well as mine.   Be sure your mailing address is correct with ebay, as I cut and paste the address as it's provided to me by them in order to eliminate copying errors (and please use caps in the appropriate locations so I don't have to use my time to make corrections for you. We take great care with descriptions and research and we post large, good quality photos so you can see what you are bidding on.  But for all of our care, we may overlook some bit of information you need.  Please write, and we will do our best to provide you with whatever information or additional images you need.  Unless otherwise stated, we will accept returns, but generally only if the item is not as described.  It isn't our intention to stick anyone with unsatisfactory items, but you are responsible for reading the description and examining the photos.  You can also ask for additional photos if  you need them.    We do not do retaliatory feedback.  If you do your part, you will get feedback accordingly (sometimes I'm a little slow, but I always leave it).  If we have done something deserving of negative feedback, we will accept the responsibility, but we expect to be allowed to try to resolve the problem to your satisfaction before you resort to feedback.  We always answer emails.  If you don't get an answer in a reasonable time, it will reflect an unusual circumstance--the system is down, medical/family emergency, etc.     Customs Forms:  Before you ask me to falsify a customs form, consider this: you would be asking me,  a perfect stranger, to commit a crime on your behalf, for no personal gain to myself and for which I alone can be held accountable.  Need I even say, "Duh"?  (And forget personal gain.  That won't work either.) Some soapbox notes on feedback:  Sometimes I'm slow, but as noted above, I always leave it.  But don't write to me and ask for it.  There's nothing tackier (and I consider it very ill-mannered).  Feedback is there to show the next person how you and I conduct ourselves on ebay, not as a personal "look at me" score.  I appreciate the people who participate in the system by leaving it, but I have never paid the slightest attention to who does or who does not leave it.  It's not an entitlement; it's not something you owe me or I owe you, and frankly, it's none of my business whether you choose to reciprocate.   People who try to dictate "you first" are utterly clueless about the purpose and nature of feedback.  You either participate in the system for the sake of the system, or you don't, but it's not tit for tat and it's nobody else's business either way.  Sorry to have to bring it up, but I had a perfectly outrageous letter from a buyer who wanted to dictate exactly when I should have left it.    Thanks for bidding, and good luck!!
