The basic story behind these Replica Doublooms is as follows. On July 31, 1715 a fleet of 11 Spanish Galleons, carrying $14,000,000 (by 1960's prices) of gold and silver were lost on reefs near Cape Canaveral, Florida. 250 years later the Real (8) Co. discovered the remains of these Galleons. Among the treasures found were Gold Doublooms. These irregular pieces were cut from a bar and hammered flat, and stamped with a Spainsh Cross and shield. Your unique coins were cast from dyes made from actual Gold Doublooms, these Replicas were multi-plated in 24 kt. gold. The original coins were featured in the January 1965 issue of National Geographic magazine. The price is for all three coins in the photo. The Replica Coins for sale are from 22 mm. to 23 mm. across.
