Authentic 1858 Bank South Carolina $5.00 Currency Likely C.S. Used This is a nice displaying original pre-Civil War piece of currency from the state of South Carolina. It is an original 1858 dated $5 note from the Bank of the State of South Carolina. It is hand signed and numbered as it should be with this style of note. In the center of the right hand side of the note has the hand written date of issuance of November 14th 1858. The scene in the center shows a beautiful goddesses standing on the sides of a bust of George Washington (a Southerner0 and one of them is placing a wreath on his head. It has the printed location of issuance of “CHARLESTON” just below and the amount of “5”. It still retains some of the pale red ink overprint “FIVE” on the face and reverse of the note. This was added to help prevent counterfeiting of the note. The overall size of this note is 6-3/4ths inches by 2-5/8ths inches. This note is in attractive circulated condition. It comes in an acid free holder for preservation and display. Being sold at no reserve so you guys set the price. Due to time constraints we of are unable to check e-mails daily.
