OPA Blue Point Rationing Token
Coded as CX
Great shape
OPA stands for Office of Price Administration
Tokens were issued from 1942 till 1945
They were used to ration certain retail items during WWII.
The items rationed included canned goods, meats, sugar, coffee, tires, gas etc.
The meaning and reasons for the code letters on the OPA's has not been determined, to the best of my knowledge. Theories include, coding for specific geographic areas and a way of preventing counterfeiting.
Known Blue Point letter combinations include. CC, CH, CT, CV, CX, HH, HU, HV, HX, HY, TC, TT, TU, TV, TX, UU, VV, WC, WH, WT, WU, WW, XX, YY
I tried to get a decent picture of this token, but neither the camera nor I have the capability to show it with any detail at all. It is in great shape for being cardboard (?) and at least 63 years old. It has been carefully stored in a pet and smoke free home.
Please read the fine print……..
