LAST OF THE GIANT-SIZE ASIA BILLS 1973 CAMBODIA 500 RIELS in FLAWLESS CONDITION! This huge 35-year old, multi-color Cambodian treasure was issued toward the end of the Vietnam war after Nixon/Kissenger had clandestinely ordered the bombing of Cambodia! It is the 2nd highest denomination from the LAST ISSUE of currency from the old Banque Nationale du Cambodge, which was established under French Colonial rule. In 1975, the country was re-named Kampuchea, and soon thereafter fell under the bloody rule of the Khymer Rouge! What a gorgeous collectible banknote this is! It measures a whopping 3.5" x 7", making it one of the largest bills in the world! It is EXQUISITELY engraved in overlapping shades of green, pinkish peach, blue, brown, and yellow with dozens of intricate details too numerous to describe and too fine to appreciate in a scan. The face, all in Cambodian, features a photographically exact vignette (steel-etched image) of a young girl in native garb holding a classic water jug on her head. On the right rise 3 stylized cobras wearing exotic crowns. On the left is a large watermark of a native man. The reverse has a full-width vignette of vast palm-fringed rice fields with 2 obsolete Commnuist tractors, flanked by a large, scowling masked god at left and literally dozens of high relief ancient mythical figures and animals all the way across the bottom. This composition is reminiscent of Mayan Indian sculpture! The banknote is in virtually pristine condition - Gem C.U. with the slightest handling at one corner. Crispy fresh paper with not one fold, crease, tear, split, hole, pinhole, penmark, or other problem - - something you seldom find on an older giant world banknote!! This is one of the true classics of foreign currency.
