Up for auction are 7 Colonial States of America and & Revolutionary War FACSIMILE Notes. These notes are all REPROS. Very Nice and all are in Mint Condition. The 7 notes are:
New York - Ten Spanish Milled Dollars - August 13, 1776. Note the phrase "Tis Death to Counterfeit" at the bottom right corner. Counterfeiting of currency was a major problem in the colonies.
Maryland - Eight Dollars - April 10, 1774. Closely examine the top of the bill, and you will see the words "Maryland" and "Dollars" printed in alternative letters.
New Jersey - Eighteen Pence - March 25, 1776. Displays the Royal Arms of Great Britain.
Georgia - Four Dollars - September 10, 1777. One of many issues intended to finance the war: note the words "For the support of the Continental Troops and other expenses of Government."
South Carolina - Five Shillings - April 10, 1778. South Carolina issued currency as early as 1703 to obtain funds for an attack on the Spaniards in Florida.
Pennsylvania - Fifteen Shillings - October 1, 1773. The Arms of William Penn with the motto "Mercy Justice" is prominent. The spelling of the name "Pennsylvania" was common in Colonial Pennsylvania.
Delaware - Five Shillings - January 1, 1776. The bill mentions the King of England with the words "in the 15th Year of the Reign of his Majesty George the 3rd."
