Here is an encased coin that is rarely seen and I have never seen before. It is an 1851 copper large cent surrounded by an aluminum casing. Overall it measures about 40mm. On the obv is written: Berkshire Life Insurance Co. Inc. 1851 – 1851- Pittsfield, Mass.-1936; and on the reverse: Eighty-five years of security and service to policyholders. We grade the coin an XF to an AU and it shows good surfaces and detail. The casing is probably AU. What a unique collector's item for many different collections.
