Sculptor: José SimãoJosé Simão drew on the sides of the shield national currency, the
captions "sportsmanship" and "Portuguese Republic," the era and the
face value. The reverse side shows a football pitch where he
repeats the expression fair play and the inner circle you see the logo
of "UEFA Euro 2004". The emphasis on the word sportsmanship and
fair play repetition of the words symbolize the example and attitude
that should always be present in sports competitions.
The first collection,
"The Values of Football", illustrates themes depicting the emotions
of the game and is formed by coins "Football is festival",
"Football is Passion" and "Football is Fair Play." One of
the coins of this collection was considered the best currency minted in 2003
and received the International Prize Vicenza Palladio. " The second
collection, "The show of Football", addresses three elements of the
sport - "The Remate", "The Defense" and "The
Goal".
