Revised:
This uncirculated original January 1, 1864 $3 note from the State of Georgia is as nice as you will find for your collection. Under closer examination, this beauty does have a light fold or paper defect where the seal is located that shows up on the back so the price was reduced. You will be hard press to find a better note as it is a bright note with all the border lines present. Most of these notes are cut with some of the border line missing or in circulated condition. It was issued from Milledgeville, GA in January of 1864 and is so dated along the top of the note. The vignette of ” Horses at the Well” is an original engraving by Richard H. Howell and is signed by him. Howell printed most of the State of Georgia series. This vignette can also be found on some obsolete notes. On the top of the note it has an oval green ink stamp from the Georgia Treasury Department that authenticates it’s issue. It was the only color treasury seal used on this denomination. At the bottom center it has the Georgia State Coat of Arms clearly visible. Serial number 31920 and all are plate letter “A” numbered #1 - # 50,000. Signed by T.D. Tinsley for the Comptroller General and R.J. McCamy for the Treasurer. The note is hand signed, and numbered. It measures approximately 6.75 inches by 2.85 inches in overall size.
