A hard to find GEM specimen

This CHOICE uncirculated original January 1, 1864 $1 note from the State of Georgia is as nice as you will find for your collection. It is a GEM specimen! You will be hard press to find a better condition note as it is a bright note with all the border lines present. Most notes are cut with some of the border line missing or they are in circulated condition. The top of this note is close to the line but it is all there. It was issued in Milledgeville, GA from April 6 to October 14, 1864. The train vignette displays the style used on a Confederate “CSA” currency series. On the top of the note it has an oval green ink stamp from the Georgia Treasury Department that authenticates it’s issue. It was the only color treasury seal used on this denomination. At the bottom center it has the Georgia State Coat of Arms clearly visible. Serial number 1009 plate letter D. There were only 39,000 of this note issued and plate letters A-E ranged from # 1 to # 7,800. Signed by J.M. Beall for the Comptroller General and B.F. Castellaw for the Treasurer. The note is hand signed, and numbered. It measures approximately 6.75 inches by 2.85 inches in overall size.
