The Celebrated John W. Adams Collection of United States Large Cents of the Year 1794 by Q. David Bowers In 1982 Bowers and Ruddy, in an unusual move, sold numismatist John W. Adams' collection of 1794 large cents at fixed price.The catalog was distributed to fewer than 1,000 collectors in hard and softbound versions. This is one of 750 softbound catalogs and includes the fixed price list.1794 was an extraodinary year for large cents and the Adams' collection was an extraordinary collection of 75 pieces, 33 of which were about uncirculated or better.The 131-page catalog is as much as book as a catalog, including an overview of the U.S. Mint during the formative years of the late 18th century.
