In the second half of the ninth Century A.D. the Shahi dynasty was ruling in the Gandhara or Kabul-Ohind region of India. They issued coins in copper and silver. The most common coin had on one side an image of a horseman with a long lance in one hand and an unknown object in the other. On the other side was a reclining bull with jhula (saddle-cloth) and a Nagari legend. This coin was widely distrubuted, and used by several rulers, even after Samantadeva who introducted the style. Our copper coins from ancient India are from AD978-1298. The coin shown is a sample. Because of age and circulation, the size, shape and image on the coin may vary. Includes a plastic sleeve. Coin is 1/2" or wider.
