Lot of 20 Uncleaned Ancient Roman Imperial Coins.. These are Lower Grade Small Coins.. Mostly 12 - 14 mm.. These are 90% AE4's. Some Will Probably Clean Up Nicely and Show Decent Details and Others Will Have Little if Any Details.. I Don't Know What Types You Will Find. It Looks Like Most are From The Fourth Century. I'm Sure Many will be Attributable.. These Are NOT Premium. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ CLEANING ANCIENT COINS I am frequently ask how to clean ancient coins. The method I use is repeated brushing and detail cleaned with a dental pick as the last step. If you purchase bulk uncleaned coins the first thing to do is soak them all for a month in distilled water and change the water weekly. The second step is to brush them with a very stiff plastic brush. A toothbrush with the bristles cut in half works, but something stiffer will work better. After the first brushing you will usually know if it's a good coin or not. Seldom is one brushing enough. After you brush the coins let them dry for an hour then put back in distilled water for a few hours . Keep repeating these steps untill the only dirt left is in the legend. The last step is to clean the legend and small parts that brushing didn't get. For this you need to use a dental pick..Be very carefull not to scratch the coin, Take your time. One of the pictures below shows a typical progression of how the coin cleans up after each brushing. From this batch I am selling as uncleaned lots I have cleaned about 1,000 and included that picture to show what they look like after cleaned. The picture has some larger AE3 coins because these are the coins I am going to sell individually. The lots I am selling are from the same batch but are the smaller AE4s. From the ones I have cleaned it looks like about half have low detail and some have no details showing. About 10% to 20% look very good. Keep this in mind also, if you buy uncleaned coins for $1.50 a coin. Your real price is more like $10.00 to $20.00 per good coin. The average is one out of 10 looks very good, and about half will most likely be culls, no details at all. This is the nature of uncleaned coins and sellers can't see through dirt. But the fun part is you never know what you will find, and often times the few good ones make up for the duds.. If your not patient your best bet is to buy cleaned coins because it can be very frustrating working with uncleaned ancient coins. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ These coins have been soaked for many months and rinsed several times... For this lot skip the long soaking... Soak overnight and then start the repeated brushing. You will find some come clean after a few times brushed and some perhaps need more then 6 repeated soaking and brush cycles to clean up.. Some might be a lost cause. You really won't know untill you try to clean them.. This batch is AE4's. These are smaller. These small coins are just as hard to clean as the larger but a higher percentage look good when you do get them cleaned. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ I do not ship to Italy.
