A pair of Hard Times tokens : Andrew Jackson in a trunk holding a sword and money bag " TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY " ( obv. ), the reverse has a donkey facing left and " THE CONSITUTION AS I UNDERSTAND IT, ROMAN FIRMNESS, VETO ", chocolate brown, grades VG * the other has a seated Brittania figure facing left with " AMERICAN INSTITUTE NEW YORK (H) " on the obverse and the reverse states " Copy of a Medal ROBINSON'S, JONES & CO. for the BEST Military, Naval, Sporting & Plain Flat Buttons 1833 ", dark with corrosion as can be seen in the photo. Robinson's Jones & Co. in Attleboro, Mass. recieved the American Institute medal for their metallic buttons in the fall of 1833 and promptly issued these tokens to advertise their triumph.
