The obverse features the Lancaster Courthouse as at was in 1777. The reverse reads "In the War for Independence the British captured Philadelphia, and the memebers of the Continental Congress fled to Lancaster where they convended in the Courthouse for one day, Sept. 27th. 1777, then still fearing capture they crossed the mile-wide Susquehanna River to York, Pennsylvania."
