S. Mint. It is also one of the most popular of all U.S. Coins to collect. Minst from 1916 through 1947 all Liberty "Walkers" were struck in 90% silver. In designer Adolph A Weinman's own words, the coin's obverse "...Bears a full legnth figure of liberty, the folds of the stars and stripes flying to the breeze as a background, progressing full stride towards the dawn of a new day, carrying branches of laurel and oaks, symbolic of civil and military glory. The hand of the figure is outstretched in bestowal of the spirit of Liberty." On the coin's reverse is "an eagle perched high upon a mountain crag, his wings unfolded, fearless in spirit and conscious of his power. Springing from a rift in the rock is a sapling Mountain Pine Symbolical of America."Liberty Walking half dollars were struck at the mints in Philadelphia (no mint mark) Denver (D Mint mark) and San Francisco (S mint mark). On all 1916 issues and some 1917 issues the mint mark is lovated on the obverse of the coin below the motto "In God We Trust".
