This auction is for a 1863 Civil War storecard token; the inscription is "Union 1863 C", and "Charnley, 11 Orange St., Providence, R.I.". These tokens were struck by private companies and mints to use for small change (and advertising), as United States coinage was in short supply.  An interesting piece of numismatic history from this troubled time in our nations' past.  You can own a piece of history affordably, and there are thousands of different types and varieties of these popular tokens.  Grade it for your purchase as you see it in the pics.
